    Closing a day

Does anybody have any experience with reducing their open days? When I opened 8 years ago I had nothing but time. I was single, childless and living in an apartment. Unlike the VAST majority of independents where I’m located, I opened 7 days per week. Go forward 8 years, and I’m now married...

Why Having Your Pizzeria on Google Places is So Important

brad randall: Ah, the importance of actually reading a study before you reference it as fact…

    What would you do?

When I first started gathering e-mail addresses in 2007 I basically did what you’re referring too… grabbed as many as I could without a care about who they were. Five years later, that list was 7,000 people strong and mostly garbage. There’s a big difference between a “mailing list” and a...

Facebook posts and the power of free pizza

Patrick, have you tried Facebook Offers? I’ve found that those go extremely viral. I did an offer about 3 hours ago and made 50 available… It’s just for our normal Tuesday night special. We have 5,000 fans and the offer has now been seen by 3,410 people, with 1,196 organic and 2,214 viral...

I'm tired of hearing about the bad job market...

bodegahwy: Had a very similar situation here. Hired a server for a 35 hour per week job and then received an unemployment claim about 3 weeks later. She was not putting any of her tips on the claim, indicating that she was making $75 per week ($2.13/hr.) I called the state and told them what...

    Point of Success

Jeff Ward was around here today, so hopefully he’ll see this and respond. But, my WAG is that maybe there was a problem caused by having two databases running on the same computer. I can tell you I’m a VERY happy Point of Success user, and the only times I’ve ever had a problem with it have...

    Employee Scheduling Software

PL Pizza: Yes, and I love it. It probably paid for itself the first week we used it. The only thing I’m hoping to see in a future release is some sort of connection with Time Clock so POS will stop early clock-ins. But for now, I wrote a report that gives me notice of any early clock-ins and...

Today (9/5) is Cheese Pizza Day

UncleNicksPizza: UNP, that’s some pretty darn good copy writing. ETA: I just checked out your FB page… all of your copy writing is really good!

    What would cause rubbery dough?

I’m far from a dough expert… but isn’t that a really small amount of yeast?

How do you do your marketing? (Quantity or Frequency?)

Frequency over reach any day of the week. We have just about 20,000 homes in our marketing zone, and I split those up into 4 groups of 5,000. When we go on an acquisition campaign I hit one of the 5,000 groups 3 times in 4 weeks (sending every other week.) I don’t think I’ve ever had a time...

    Tiered perks for great customers

We’re getting ready to launch a loyalty program and along with that I’m going to be adding tiered levels for our best customers - Gold, Silver, Bronze or something like that - that they can move into with purchasing behavior. I need some ideas of what kinds of perks to give to these different...

I'm tired of hearing about the bad job market...

Freddy_Krugerrand: While I don’t discount that effect in the U.S. (and elsewhere of course) it definitely isn’t an issue in my store’s area. In fact, we probably have the exact opposite problem - entitled kids with upper middle class parents that taught them for years how “special” they are. I...

I'm tired of hearing about the bad job market...

… because I can’t find a decent employee to save my life right now. I have positions paying upward of $10.00 per hour and I can’t find reliable people to fill them. They come dressed ridiculously for interviews, are late on their first day, can’t follow simple instructions, and everything in...

    Information Technology HELP

I use Google’s Cloud Print a lot, and it’s nowhere near reliable enough that I would trust it printing online orders. I’d say it doesn’t print for me about 20% of the time, or the job gets stuck somewhere until I restart Chrome. I’m fairly certain it’s still in beta as well.

Evaporator coil on a True prep table

Thanks all. I ended up getting to it from inside the cabinet as recommended. There are clear plastic thumb screws that I didn’t even notice - those are what released the cover.

    Rebates

Rebates should definitely be taken off of COGS, not entered as income. I have a separate account for mine. It’s what’s knows as a “contra” account under Cost of Goods Sold. Shows as a negative number.

Evaporator coil on a True prep table

Does anybody know how to get to the evaporator coil on a True prep table? I’m decently versed in refrigeration but I can’t figure this one out. The placard next to the fan says “Do not operate with evaporator cover removed” but the only thing that appears to have screws is the fan cover. I...

    Cheese Pizzas: Air Bubbles/pockets

You want to dock it when the dough is already shaped into a finished skin. Our dough is very thin, and the docker pretty much penetrates is all the way through. We push hard enough to dock, but not so hard that it mis-shapes the dough. It’s hard to explain, but you’ll get a good feel for it...
