    groupon

Rockstar, with all due respect, you must be DESPERATE to consider Groupon. You might as well take out a pay-day loan, or MERCHANT loan!! Groupon is crap for restaurants! If you want a 50/50 partner, who keeps 50% and has you pay all the overhead from your 50%, then Groupon is for you! Focus on...

    Schedule Software

Same as those above, your POS should be able to track time clocked in. As far as scheduling, I use a good ole spreadsheet for up to 30 employees. Copy, paste, edit, forecast, print. I can do 3 weeks in about 10 minutes.

managing your store vs working a position

Plan on training, supervising, mentoring, and evaluating everyday, all day. Plan on filling the gap as you weed through employees and respond to changes in business volume. From the few people I’ve met and evaluated with ‘corporate, high volume’ restaurant experience, I’ve learned that they’re...

    Mailshark - Break

Why stop a good thing? Not only do continue successful marketing, but I’m always looking for additional ideas! I do not use Mail Shark, BUT, if it’s worked for you, DO NOT STOP.

Opening a new place, feedback please!

I’ve got to say, bodegahwy nailed it again… If I were one of your investors, your $65K/yr at start-up would be a total no-go. $30K/yr would be far more attractive, with you receiving back-end compensation on actual profit. I’d like you to focus and think about the following for at least 2 weeks…...

Opening a new place, feedback please!

Scott, isn’t this dream of opening your own business exciting!! 🙂 You’ve already received 2 very good opinions from 2 very seasoned operators. I’m going to recommend you search all related topics on the forum and faqs. I’d like to talk about finances and assumptions… Not very many pizza places...

    GM had back surgery

I held back responding too… It sounds like you’re re-evaluating her value to you, and that’s fine. As a few others have echoed, you probably have a ‘cook’ who’s been with you for seven years, but a GM? A GM runs the store with little assistance. A GM hires & fires, keeps payroll inline, keeps...

    Business Donations

It really is up to you. Only you can evaluate whether or not there’s a potential business development from the investment. Have you tried to develop a relationship with them prior to this letter? As for letters, they probably mailed many letters to other businesses with the same offer…

    $3/pound cheese?

Piper, how do you get $1.80 on a 14Feb contract? All I see are options. Edited… Disregard, I see you were talking about 2015. sri.

    $3/pound cheese?

CME up another penny to $2.32/lb. I hear propane is at record highs up there in cheese country. Perhaps that’s the relationship…

    $3/pound cheese?

Piper, I’m sure Grande & Bacio are already north of $3.00 a block, add $.20 cents extra if its shredded. I’m praying the price comes back down… If it stays in this range for the entire year, I’ll spend an extra $40K+ just on cheese. Without price increases, that’s $40K LESS profit at the same...

Cost to fit out retail space for pizzeria.

I agree with everyone. Its crazy to do a NEW build-out in this market. Too many failures to take advantage of if you’re serious about dipping your toes into the business. Good luck.

    Next Level ??

Daisy, it looks like he’s charging you $40K for some old equipment and an opportunity to pay him more rent in his ‘failed’ location. Be careful.

    Confused and Frustrated.

Your LandLord is full of it. YOU ARE NOT A 1099 INDEPENDENT CONTRACTOR! You are not an owner. You are an employee! As such, he is already breaking the law by not withholding payroll taxes and paying social security, and unemployment Insurance. He probably IS NOT paying WORKMAN’S COMP, which...

    Confused and Frustrated.

This LandLord is on it!! Not only is his building being rented, he is getting you to build a profitable business in it which he also owns!!! Then later, he will offer to sell you the business, with financing available, while continuing to rent his building. Simply put, you are just an employee...

    Employee Bonus/Incentive Program

BC (and others), I know that I come across as really HARD. Truth is, I am. But everything isn’t black and white, that’s why we get the big bucks, to make decisions on things that aren’t black and white. Yes, I’m sure my employees are above market rates… They average between $13/hr to $28/hr. I...

    Employee Bonus/Incentive Program

BC, Yes. Did. And Do. So a driver takes your $100 pizza order and turns it into mush. >>>>??? Really? My policy is deliver it like you got it or else, pay for it and do what you like with it. I also pay to train new employees. But once they’re trained, they’re also responsible for work...

    Specials

What I love about this thread: Its possible that you could run 40% FC and generate 8% profit, while running 32%FC and generating just 4% profit. There’s a lot of variables that can be tweaked, but the bottom line is profit. Generally, more work should equal more profit. One store equals $1K...
