    Need help making BIG Decision

DON’T DO IT!! At least, not at $6/pie. Counter at $10, settle at $8.25 (with much bigger minimums, like 501/month, else, the rate increases to $10. Only bargain with the decision maker. You’ll have to increase your staff (more payroll) to maintain your regular business along with the new...

    yelp sucks

Didn’t [they] have a lawsuit in recent years about the practice of "manufacturing a bogus review then attempting to extort businesses by controlling & manipulating reviews based on whether or not you ‘advertised’ with them??? Place a reply to the review exactly the way you did above and with...

    Fountain soda prices

We charge $2.25 with one re-fill. Coke raises their price every year, can’t wait to see how much they hike it in January.

    ServSafe Training

I recently sponsored a class for 14 of my employees at one of my restaurants. The instructor was a prior ‘Health Inspector’ for our county. It turned out great, really good training and atmosphere. I paid my employees regular pay while they attended the 8 hours of training/testing and of course...

    Chamber of Commerce, worth joining?

By all means, yes. Chambers are pretty good marketing machines, and being a member, allows you to piggy-back. Of course, there are many other benefits, but the annual membership cost is more than returned in marketing value provided to your business.

    Inventory n Bonuses

Paying a bonus to reduce theft? Really??? I don’t think so. If and when I award bonuses, its for exceptional performance.

    Custom Pizza Boxes

Star can certainly do it. However, going custom can be expensive. For me, it would be an additional $10K - $15K a year, an increase I cannot justify. *Tip: if you do decide to go custom, ask your beverage distributor to ‘help’ with the ‘setup’ cost. The 2 big guys have budgets set aside for this.

    Why are mixers SOOOOO expensive???

Shop locally and on Craigs list for a used mixer. You shouldn’t have a problem getting one for $1K - $4K. Pizza guys go out of business EVERY day. Schools retire mixers EVERY year, etc…

    cheese prices

CME is up big over the past 2 - 3 weeks. Anyone know what, besides the price of oil, that is driving this push upwards?

    Fundraiser

Shack, Not really sure what you’re asking. Is this the first pizza you’ve ever sold? If you “sell” a product “x” for “$y”, you “collect” sales tax on total $s of y. In your case, you’re selling a product for $10, which means you collect an 8% sales tax on the $10. Total plus sales tax would be...

    Arrow POS

You should not have to replace anything in 4 years. I won’t bother mentioning what I use for a POS, because most who comment on this board prefer to promote the one they use. However, I will mention, that aside from the cost of equipment (not very much), I only paid a one time $99 license fee...

    WORKING 2 OVENS

Dave, when I had our new Edge ovens installed, the techs noticed that we didn’t have enough gas pressure. The gas company techs came out and installed increased capacity gauges and lines. Problem solved. This might be part of the problem.

    Hired a GM, now what?

Cpif, I’m still catching up so please bear with me… At $360K a year, your store does not have to go bust… If you’re running a very tight operation, with you working (on the line) 70hrs/week, you can even make a decent paycheck, probably around $25-$50K/yr. But you cannot do this with a GM...

    Hired a GM, now what?

Anyone figure labor percentage INCLUDING sales tax? RobandCindy, I don’t figure anything with SALES TAX. It’s not yours, its not sales, it’s taken already. When I look at monthly or annual sales, IT DOES NOT INCLUDE SALES TAX. As for labor, I include all payroll taxes. Worker’s Comp falls...

    Hired a GM, now what?

I’m late responding… its been a busy Labor Day weekend. First of all, maybe not a direct answer, but something to think about… Do you have an EXIT strategy? Have you already passed that milestone?? As for the GM… I currently have 3 businesses, and I’m the “GM” of all 3. I’m just not big enough...

    Health insurance for small business

The last quote I got, yr 2009, was $4500/yr per employee. I don’t think $150k year is in my range. Its probably around $10K/yr now. But hey, according to the GOP, all is good with health care. If you’re a rich congressman or senator, covered by a ‘government’ plan and the heck with everyone...

    The "hook" offer?

It seems you like ‘how it sounds.’ But, in practice, ‘how it sounds’ has very little, if any business value. I don’t really go for these ‘deals’ but you know your market better than me. If your market is constantly chasing ‘how it sounds deals’ then this will only end one way. Although its not...

    New Edge Ovens installed today

I’d echo the same - GREAT COMPANY, GREAT PEOPLE, AND GREAT OVENS. Paul, I couldn’t imagine using 3 of them!!! We had a double stack put in earlier this year - more than meets our needs! Congrats on your new purchase.
