POS LCD Repairs -- My Recommendation

Sorry to hijack, but we use keyboards and mice with $75 lcds. My staff really wants touchscreens. Anyone gone from mouse/keyboard to touchscreens? Is it a substantial increase in order entry speed?

My FB rant about Urbanspoon and Yelp posts

Famous - good solid advice. I guess I don’t mind thoughtful negative comments when we deserve it - we reap what we sow (and we certainly have some of those). We deal with those complaints with lots of sugar. I also am not offended if people do not prefer the taste of my pizza - everyone is...

My FB rant about Urbanspoon and Yelp posts

I posted the below text as a “Note” on my FB account today. It mainly resulted from the following review of my restaurant: “very average pizza…too many other great pizza places.” That was the entire review. Nothing more. I don’t mind criticism. But I don’t get the point of some of these...

How do you cut your pizza?

We use a rocker and cut it on the peel. Occasionally, we cut our Chicago styles on an unfolded box. I’ve never tried a roller, but can’t imagine it’s better… My trouble is the cheap Winco rocker knifes - the handles keep breaking. I need to invest in a better knife. pC

We made the switch to NY Style pizza 5 months ago!

    Facebook Help

Aside from what everyone else said… IMHO, the key to social media is how you use it. If you just use it as a vehicle to post specials, you will be disappointed with the results. If you use it is a way to have a 2-way dialog with your customers, you will thrive from it (and when you DO post...

    Groupon Experiences

Royster - I think that is spot on. I do believe, however, that Groupon has become more ubiquitous - it is now squarely within the “Overton Window” such that lots of ordinary people are using Groupon. There was a time when E-bay and Amazon were only for a certain nerdy demographic. Now, each is a...

    Groupon Experiences

Pizza, I hear you. I think that’s why I tried to make it clear in my post that the discounts given are marketing dollars! If you try to look at them in terms of typical discount dollars or Groupons, it doesn’t make sense. But Groupon has a huge database of people who actually buy things. In...

    Groupon Experiences

Sorry to bump an old post, but I thought I’d take a few minutes to relay my Groupon experience this month. Our overall experience has been very positive. If I had it to do over again, I would. We sold about 2000 during two different features (a long story that relates to my negative experience...

    CUSTOM PRINTED BOXES

Color me jealous. We have to use 2" E Flute boxes because of our Chicago Style Pizzas a large 14" is 5+ pounds. Custom printed 2 color boxes are: 12" - 35.00 16" - 50.00+ Anyone else have prices on 2" E Flutes??

    Question about "tender payment later"

First, I’m an idiot. I obviously meant to post this in the POS Roundtable forum. Posting here was, apparently, a habit. Second, thanks for the help. We’re having all sorts of issues as we get delivery going. But it gets better every night. How many deliveries is “a lot”. Last night, we had to...

    Question about "tender payment later"

I have a dispatcher. I have a driver. The order was pre-authorized by cc. Upon return from a trip, we hit “tender payment later”. The ticket is in the dispatcher’s name. Now, when we go to rock the tip, it shows up in the dispatcher’s till and there is no way move it to the driver’s till. Any...

New DELCO by Pizza business virgins! What do you think?

If I can be so bold, I think you should focus on your concept a bit more. I know you’ve put a lot more work into this than you let on in your post, but it sounds like you should: Focus on pizza! What makes you different than PH? Ingredients? Type of dough? Portions? Specialty toppings? Cheese...

    Starting up delivery.

We’ve been open for 8 months and I would like to start up delivery. I’m considering a soft launch to a few surrounding neighborhoods for the first 2 weeks. This is my first a and I’ve never worked in a delivery restaurant. So I’m trying to soak up as much as I can. Here’s where I’m at: I use...

    Halloween

We do not deliver. It was our first Halloween being open. We were down by 50+% from our average Sunday. I’ve got to get delivery up and running…

    My Manager stole a LOT

So I discovered my bar manager had been stealing from me in many different ways. I fired him about 5 weeks ago. We do about 21% of sales in alcohol and the vast majority is beer (so our costs are going to be a bit higher than typical bar costs). Look what happened to our costs this month: My...

    school night

How about stamps that are put on their daily work (or whatever your school has)? They still have paper work right? Or demand a one time exclusive email to their list for each event? We do had our first 15 percent deal wirth my local elementary school last week and had a 4400 Wednesday out of...

    need a pos system

I use Point of Success. I have some background with PC’s and have been a tinkerer all my life. For the money, it is as full featured as most POS systems out there AND it is pizza-centric. It has it’s quirks, etc, but the support community is great and I haven’t had to pay for support yet… As to...

Anyone have an extra receipt printer?

Pizzasource - you have mail. Piper, I actually considered that. But, because I can’t confirm the printer even works, I’m reluctant to drop $60.00 on it… que sera eh?

    Where to begin...lowering food costs

Thanks for all the great tips. I’ve found lots of holes in our products and preparation that can be fixed. But holy Coca-Cola costs Batman!!! We charge $1.95 for a soda. I just calculated our soda cost since opening - 37%!! That’s just for the BIB’s (no cups, straws, ice, etc.) I assumed this...
