    Mailers

Time is money too! If you have the time then doing as much as you can on your own will save you money. Using a service like Mail Shark will cost more but you do not have to think about it at all, drive to post office(s), etc. You pay more, but they get results. I use a service to do my menus...

    cheese prices...how much you pay?

We are using a fresh, never frozen mozz/muenster blend of shredded cheese now and it comes in at 0.39 per pound over block average plus vendor %. We are currently at $2.74. Even though the cheese company has a plant here in CO our cheese is from CA as the local plant only does QLC and some other...

Just upped my pay scale 14% across the board and amazingly my applicants are way better looking than the ones I was attracting before.

Where do / would you allocate your marketing budget?

My bigger volume stores are around 2500-3500 pieces each drop depending on Carrier Route sizes - 5 - 7 routes. My lower volume shop is 1500-2000 2-4 routes.

    When to use EDDM

My menus do have some coupons on them but mostly package deals (2 pizzas, bread and a 2ltr), etc. Not really tried any major changes, all I know is it works and has staying power. I did recently get a very cool 4 over 4 8x11 postcard from a sub shop in one of my areas which had me intrigued to...

    When to use EDDM

I do runs of the EDDM Menus in 8 week blocks. I do 8 weeks in a row regardless of other sources of media dropping, then 8 weeks off. I set up my areas with 16 weeks of drops to hit the whole area. After the 8 week break it is back to mailing every week to the other half of my area. I hit my...

    Big Volume Questions

That is just Friday nights at 1 of my shops. We increased sales 50% (from 20k to 30k) over the last 18 months and it was all from dropping our Out The Door time to 14 minutes or less. Paying attention to quality and accuracy, all reasons why we dont need fancy heated bags even in the winter.

    Big Volume Questions

If I had joker’s PPO I would be doing an obscene amount! We will do 700 pizzas 5-11 on a Friday or Saturday. 400 on weekdays. I agree with everyone else forget about heated bag system, just be quick! POS??? We have issues with ours when it is really really busy, but not sure that matter so much...

www.pospaper.com has a loyalty program plus free shipping with 10 cases, etc. My last order I got to apply $25 off and all the other discounts got 10 cases of 220’ 3-1/8" thermal rolls for under $400! I buy for my 3 shops plus a couple of my friends then buy from me so my rewards add up quick.

I am looking to make my own ranch dressing. Does anyone have suggestions?

We used to buy our ranch at Sam’s Club - their in house brand. We now make the HVR stuff using fresh buttermilk and mayo and the packet of stuff. The cost difference is it actually costs more for the HVR and add in the labor on top of that. Flip side - it does taste dramatically different and...

    Food Cost

Very good point! Grande vs brand x or brand y are just not going to cost the same. Our cheese is like 39 cents over block before our distributor adds their 6%. Some of that is freight from California to Colorado and some is quality difference between “pizza cheese” and our stuff we use.

    Forth of July

Never open. never will! I throw a huge BBQ for my stores and make a real employee appreciation event out of it! Only reason Domino’s in my areas think it is the busiest day of the year!

Where do / would you allocate your marketing budget?

I do 8 weeks on then 8 weeks off in all 3 of my shops. The 2 bigger shops where i have 32k addresses I am doing 2500-3000 a week and in my other shop it is about 1500-2000. Works great and although there may be cheaper things to do none that I have tried have worked as well and since I am trying...

Where do / would you allocate your marketing budget?

I pay drivers bonuses on total runs in a shift - $5 at 25 an additional at 35 etc. This usually motivates them to want to stay rather than complain to leave when it is near the end of their shift. So more of an every day real performance bonus rather than an arbitrary evaluation. I also use...

Where do / would you allocate your marketing budget?

32 weeks out of the year I do menu mailings via EDDM. My biggest investment however would hit the “other” category by investing in 1 to 2 extra drivers every dinner rush and bonuses for driver performance to have the best delivery service in my areas. I count it in my advertising budget!
