    Having one of those days...

We spent a lot of days wondering what we got into and really questioning whether we should have. We got over that “hump” where the ends don’t meet. What I always do is take a deep breath - even if you squeek by on the bills with $20 to spare you made it another week. Now’s the time that I say...

    Calling on experience !

🙂 I know what you mean! We were happy to break that $500 - on the weekend we looked forward to breaking $1000. Last week we did $6900. Our advertising consists of a building banner (and signs), a 30 ft blowup and handing out menus. We started doorhanging but after about 200 we noticed a major...

    Calling on experience !

OK - I need some expert advice from someone who’s done a new startup and has gone through a year or two. We’ve seen really great growth and I don’t know to expect it to stay that way or is it more typical that you see a bump and it will go down and settle. How long do you track the “upswing”...

    B2B Lunch Deliveries

Re: Here’s what to do!!! We had the same problem - many days hitting $40-$60 by 5pm and we thought the POS wasn’t working when our labor was over 100%. “Open and they will come” doesn’t work. We started what we call “lunch lady” - 14" pizzas for $5 and 20 oz sodas for $1 - we target...

    Slow???

I would like to see the plan as well! I specialize in “spaghetti marketing” - throw it up against the wall and see what sticks! Seriously, does everyone else have a distinct “plan”? I have a lot of ideas that when a get a free minute we pick one and follow it. There’s no long-term plan or...

    Menu request and/or swap

I’d be happy to send you one of ours as well as a fun one my mother sent me from Iceland for one of the “big 3”. What a fun idea!

    Marketing Help

I went through a local printer and used their bulk mail permit. My last one was about 3,000 and cost me $463. I have a write-up on how to that I prepared for our local Chamber of Commerce if you’d like to see it - just send me your email and forward a copy.

    Thanks for the Great Ideas!

We started out as clueless newbies last September and have learned a lot of hard lessons since. I don’t think we could have made it this far without the tons of valuable information. I don’t post many questions but I log on and read at least 3 times a week. Based on the information here, we...

    Do u Cater?

We’ve had a lot of success with what we call “lunch lady”. We do basically the same thing but target construction crews working on new homes and large commercial sites. We do 1-topping 12" pizza and 20 oz soda for $5. They get to count on her since they can’t leave for lunch - it only took a...

    Marketing idea - employee contest

We did something like this - it was a disaster. employees didn’t particupate - only 1 or 2 did it. We made the mistake of cash prizes and it actually cost us money. I tracked the “new” customers and not a single one has reordered in the past 60 days since the contest. Awful!

    Internet Usage While At Work

We don’t allow Internet use at all - the POS requires the highest security setting to even get to Windows to log onto the internet. But then, we don’t allow text messaging, cell phones or pagers either. If business is slow, there’s always something to clean, doorhangers to distribute, or...

For those that opened on Easter

We’ve been going less than a year so our numbers are lower than others’. March averaged $729 on Sunday - we were open normal hours for Easter and did $690. Pretty typical
