    Opening store marketing Ideas...

Hint: Phone books aren’t anywhere close to what they used to be. I can remember back in the day, the first week phone books would come out we’d get absolutely hammered. With internet searches at your fingertips, the drive from phone book advertising unfortunately, is a thing of the past. Even...

Price you are paying for cheese this week

I just don’t understand how cheese prices can be at an all time high right now. This is usually the time of year where you start seeing the prices fall off. I mean, I can understand an all time high in August and September… but the end of November? This is crazy. -J_r0kk

    New Owner Needs Help/Advise, Please!

yoyohat, Right now, believe it or not, I’d say to you “Don’t worry”. Just make sure you’ve got two banners out front. One should say “Opening Soon”. The other should say, “Now Hiring”. Make sure you’ve got two big envelopes taped to the front door. One should have “Applications” printed on it...

The grand compensation experiment at our first store.

dewar, I think you’ve got an excellent idea… for a perfect world. A great many people thought Karl Marx had great ideas as well (which this somewhat reminds me of). How you run your store is your own business and if it works… awesome. I think what the guys in here are trying to tell you is that...

    J_r0kk's new store ???

UPDATE: Actually Dave, quite the opposite… As most of you who’ve followed my progress knew, I fought delay after delay it seemed almost weekly since I signed the lease papers for store #2. After 6 months of delays store #1 started to deteriorate for a number of reasons: Papa John’s opened in...

    10k/wk and still no $$$

TOPDOG, Your problem lies in your variable costs. Variable costs are those that fluctuate with sales volume. Examples include: Labor % Food % Mileage % Payroll tax % Advertising % The percentage usually stays somewhat the same although dollar amounts can increase or decrease dramatically...

Tom, effect of yeast on dough?

I just called Tom today at AIB and his voicemail said he’d be out until the 18th. Snow, you might be waiting a while for the answer from Mr. Lehman. But, check the temp of your water. The cooler the water the longer the proofing process. Also, if you cut the yeast, you cut the taste… that’s a...

If it’s hotels you’re concerned about, take this scenario: You have 10 hotels in your area. Bribe the manager at each one of the hotels. Tell the manager you’ll give him/her a free pizza a week in exchange for the hotels assistance in passing out fliers. Some managers will even put the fliers...

    Question about wings

I use Perdu rotisserie flavored wings, which is a USFoods brand. They are by far bigger than any wing I’ve seen out there and they command a great price (8 for $5.99). I’m actually thinking about increasing the price to $6.99 because I think I can get it… all day long. Hope this helps. -J_r0kk

    60 quart mixers

There are a few brands to choose from out there, though Hobart is at the top of the list. Why? I don’t know. I DO know however, that all I’ve ever used is Hobart in the past and I can recollect having a problem with only one of them. I also know of a Hobart 60 qt. being used in one of our...

chuck, I’m going to offer you some advice on this subject. Some may agree with me and some won’t, but this advice is based off first-hand experience: Yellow page advertising is a thing of the past. Yes, it was great in the 80’s and 90’s before the internet took off, but the value of this...

Little Caesars Coming To Town- any ideas?

pizza dolphin, Wow, I can’t believe there is actual movement in the Little Caesars chain. It’s truly hard to believe they’re actually opening a new store. Here’s my take: They will attract the “bottom feeders” who look only for the cheapest price in pizza. Chances are, if you offer any kind of...

    Opportunity Knocks...help

Kris, In my experience over the years, I’ve noticed that sales after the football games are minimal… at best, no matter what kind of marketing you do. Be thankful that you get anything at all. However, another route you might consider is selling pizzas INSIDE the stadium while games are going...
