    Exposed Ceiling

aj, Another thing you can look into is raising the drop ceiling and painting it black. It completely takes attention away from the ceiling and draws the customer’s eyes towards the decor on your walls. Go into a few nicer restaurants and you’ll probably find this concept put to use. -J_r0kk

    why enforce registratrion

Mystery, Okay, I’ve been following this thread for a little bit. You make some good points but now you’ve crossed the line: The difference between posting as “guest” rather than “wizzle wassell” is because Wizzle Wassell is wayyyyy cooler. Don’t ever forget that. -J_r0kk

    Summertime Bugs in The Restaurant??

I have a problem with flies. I had one of my employees tell me about a solution being practiced in the northwest. They hang ziplock bags with water over the doorway. Apparently, the flies view this as a waterfall and won’t cross, therefore keeping them out of the store. Has anyone heard of this...

    Moral Compass Question

I’m confused. Were they out drinking in your establishment? If not, why would it concern you as an owner? You simply heard a rumor… no more, no less. It apparently didn’t take place in your restaurant so legally, I don’t think it’s your problem? Conscientiously, you might have other reasons for...

    Status Report

LOL, thanks for the bit of encouragement Nick. I just found out last week from a very high ranking Papa John’s official (and an old bud) that the town in which store number 2 is located produced a national opening week sales record for Papa John’s: over $50k the first week. Of course they also...

New to boards, pizza place is failing, need advice

pizzagirl, Sounds to me like you have the makings of a relatively successful operation. All you need is a few “tweaks”. Maybe I can give you an idea or two… You can make almost any pizza place work as long as you have a good population base and an area that is not over-saturated with...

    Status Report

Dave, Here’s how it went down… I sat down with my former manager and had a discussion on where the store was and where it’s going. We both agreed it would be in the store’s best interest if he were to step down. It was almost like he was relieved I was doing this. He’s a good man and means...

    electric oven vs. gas

Guest, Like I said, you’re on two different ends of the spectrum. The pizzas will relatively have the same “taste”, however the finished product will have a noticeably different bake. You might prefer it, though. Is there another location you can test your product at? I know XLT (about an hour...

    Papa John's opened

Update: They’re getting me for about 10 orders/day. Not much, but does knock my sales down about $1,000/week. Domino’s on the other hand isn’t quite as lucky. I feel for 'em. They’re pretty slow. The biggest loser though, is another indy called Gambino’s. I knew they were in trouble a couple...

    What's personal favorite pizza ?

My favorite is pretty simple: 16 oz. white dough, stretched and slapped to 12" size. Regular sauce, onions, beef, bacon, 8 oz. cheese, and pepperoni on top… good stuff. -J_r0kk

    electric oven vs. gas

Guest, You’re going to have two totally different bakes. Gas and electric or on opposite ends of the spectrum from each other. Electric ovens tend to be a little drier and the pizzas will cook a little darker. Gas keeps the outer crust softer and you’re cheese will have a better appearance. As...

Hey guys, Sorry I haven’t been as active in the forum as usual. We’re in the homestretch of opening store #2 and store #1 has been demanding lately with the additional sales and events so my time is very limited. I still check in every other day or so but haven’t posted often because the advice...

    I did $9001 on Saturday

First off, I’d like to say I don’t know what happened to your thread. I do remember you putting it up and a lot of wisecracks and a little discussion came of it. With that being said, I would like to remind you that the purpose of this forum is to share ideas and to help others who need it...
