    Tip Jar

I’m really not “That guy”, but since no one else has mentioned the legal aspect of this, I will: If you take tips that customers leave for employees, you can be sued. By either the customers OR the employees. And if you control the disposition of tips in ANY way (who gets what, etc) then you...

    Catching employee shorting

Personally, I let my people eat and drink anything they like - as long as they consume it on premises themselves. (No friends or take home) (Ok, they can take a small pizza home, but no bigger). As for your thief, it’s of course up to you, but while (first offense, first job) might be a reason...

    Pizza peels for cutting

I made myself a pizza peel shaped cutting board out of a hard plastic cutting board - it’s lasted 20 years so far…as for cutting in the box (or on the pan): it depends on your pizza.

    january FAIlL!!!!!!

Years ago, January and February were very slow, then March was booming - which I attributed to post-Christmas lack of money, and then Tax refunds showing up in March. As “Direct Deposit” got popular for Tax Refunds, Jan and Feb also got busy, I assume because people got Tax Refunds sooner. This...

    Closing a day

I was closed on Mondays from 1998 to 2008. (Finally got so busy it didn’t make sense anymore) But it was GREAT! My Tuesdays, which were almost as slow as the Mondays, actually doubled - So, net, I didn’t lose even one pizza sale. I do have fanatically loyal customers, tho.

    Handling Blocked Numbers

These people were valued customers, then YOU changed to caller ID, and now you are considering banning them? Something is wrong with that picture…

I'm tired of hearing about the bad job market...

Of course, every place is different, so the fact that virtually every employee I hire (on the rare occasions that someone leaves) turns out to be totally stellar, and long term too, might mean nothing - BUT: Given two applicants, one bright eyed, bushy tailed, looks you in the eye with a firm...

    menu pictures

Re “stock” photos: I don’t understand the concept of having pictures NOT of the actual item being sold! How can that end in anything other than deception and disappointed customers?

    Dealing With Strange Customers

Next time she comes in, when she’s ORDERING, thank her for bussing her own table!! And then add: But, they are IN THE WAY! So, as much as I appreciate you doing that, please stop? (She sounds like your typical, not-to-bright helpful person, so good luck)

    goood bye

Reasons to pay someone under the table: they are on unemployment/disability/social security/etc. Reasons NOT to pay someone under the table: you are basically giving control of your life to that person-all they have to do is get mad (or stupid) and you are pretty much out of biz. Second reason...

Costing out Soda cost has made me curious, help a guy out!

How do your prices for pop compare to the others?

I just tried to buy my first pizza place

So there is another cash register (or something) for which you are not getting the Z tapes…I’m sure this is the $$ which they don’t report…of course, by including this money on their spreadsheet, they are creating the paper trail which could put them in jail…

I just tried to buy my first pizza place

Since you can be sure they haven’t been paying their payroll taxes right, either, than you should make sure that YOU won’t be on the hook for all the SS/medicare taxes they haven’t been withholding…

    Help please with business plan

A quick “guessemate” for what busines you could expect would be based on what biz the closed PH did.

    Stirring the delivery debate...again...

“Does your pizza price reflect the cost of the pizza?” I’m just confused. What else would it reflect?

Will cheese go lower??? Or is this the bottom?

I’ll vote for lower, for the next month - then, dunnoe.

    Sundays?

We don’t deliver. Our Sundays are roughly the same as Thursdays, tho not much happens until 1pm - after church lets out - and business dies off about an hour earlier than normal at night.

    Iceberg Lettuce?

We used Iceberg for 30 years, but went to romaine last year. The Romaine seems su- perior in every way, and customers like it better…but that’s not why we changed: Every winter, about Feb-March, Iceberg goes from 15-20 dollars a case, to 50-60 dollars a case, often with a limit per account -...

    Is your pizza the best?

As mentioned, “best” is a very subjective term. So I would rephrase the question as: Is there anything you could do, to make your pizza better? (In your mind - not someone elses) In my case, no. If I thought anything could improve our pizza, I would do it.

Do any of you not deliver?

Don’t deliver. The question is: are you offering quality, or convenience? The “Big Three” offer convenience - cheap food delivered to your door. Is that who you want to compete with?
