How do you quote accurate delivery times?

Original question… How to quote good times… We take the age of the oldest orders on the driver routing screen and add about 15-20 minutes for an estimated time. We usually beat that but better to exceed expectations.

We have lost one of our members.

Justin, I am sorry for your loss. We get to know some folks surprisingly well considering it is through the keyboard a little bit at a time. If you ever wander this way, please let me know and stop in to say hello. In the meantime, welcome to the TT. I hope we will see you often. It has been a...

    Yelp/Google

Here are couple of my favorite 1* reviews; review and my response: “Called and no answer even though their Google listing said they were open. Glad I didn’t drive there so I ate really good pizza at Wild Plum instead” Gee, thanks for the 1* review when you did not actually place an order or...

    Yelp/Google

In the end the cynic in me says that Yelp will do it this way as long as they can sell advertising. When more of us hang up on them, only then will they try something else. We have never advertised with them and never will. In addition to that, I see Google reviews passing them by. Customers use...

Going through the process of buying a pizza parlor! Need motivation or realism

I once had an employee pissed at me because we put bonuses on the check and taxes are withheld. He actually thought it was normal for bonuses to be paid in cash. He was angry that I had told him he would get a $500 bonus for working the whole season at the end of the season and after taxes he...

Going through the process of buying a pizza parlor! Need motivation or realism

Always fascinating to me. From the owners perspective, there is no reason to pay employees cash from declared sales. The money spent that way would just be taxable as income to the owner… so let’s assume that a business which pays cash wages is also not declaring sales. So let’s look at the...

How much sugar are you putting in? What kind of garlic are you using?

Going through the process of buying a pizza parlor! Need motivation or realism

The food vendor is not going to do that for you. They can not just give out the confidential information about a customer to anyone that asks. What you need to do is have the seller ask the vendor for a printed out summary of their purchases for the last 12 months or for calendar 2017. The...

Going through the process of buying a pizza parlor! Need motivation or realism

Even without my manager wages on 400K would be 85K. Highest COGS (including all supplies, paper etc) cost for a well run operation doing 400K should be maybe 150K but I would hope to see it under 120K. For a slice operation (no delivery etc) it could easily be as low as 100K.

Going through the process of buying a pizza parlor! Need motivation or realism

COGS over 50%? That is absurd. This is 100K higher than it should be. Wages 38K? Also absurd. Our sales are about that level and wages (includes a manager that runs the place) are 130K. You need to look this over VERY carefully. Something is really screwy with these numbers. They cannot be...

    Yelp/Google

MPS is right. This is the same advice I received from a business neighbor a while ago. I think it is correct. We do about 20,000 orders per year. Historically we used to get about 15-20 reviews spread across Yelp, Trip Advisor and Google. Guess what many were not good. Go figure. Do we screw...

Length of Pick up times on a Friday Night

All you guys with too much business to handle smoothly… time to either invest in increased capacity (like the ovens discussion above) or raise prices!

Length of Pick up times on a Friday Night

Even when slammed it would be pretty unusual for our pick-up times to go past 20 minutes. That would mean our deliveries were past 40 and we don’t often go there.

    Yelp/Google

I think that ALL reviews, good, bad, whatever should disappear after some set period of time like 18 months or 2 years. Owners should be able to challenge reviews and have the customer be required to scan a receipt or CC statement to the website to verify or it gets taken down. We got a one...

Be sure to check in your own state whether this is legal. It is not where I live.

POS Systems...looking for advice for a new one

19 years with Prism. If I were starting over from scratch I would not even look at anything else. They are that good. You get what you pay for.

    Delivery charges/driver reimbursement

Yes. They like it just fine. It does average out plus it automatically adjusts as prices and costs rise. The mileage model is just asking for trouble unless you are using mileage generated by a good program and not what drivers report.

    Delivery charges/driver reimbursement

You get what you pay for. When you pay for miles you get… miles. There is a reason that almost nobody does it this way. Suddenly that delivery address is how far away? Unless you are using a maps based mileage calculation rather than odometer mileage I suggest you take a good close look at how...

    Delivery charges/driver reimbursement

Delivery charge is $3.00. Drivers get 6% of value delivered if they drive their own car. Nothing if they drive mine.
