Difference between Calzone and Stromboli ?

Interesting. Our strombolis and every stromboli I’ve ever had is actually made on a foot long bun, cooked open, then put together and cut into quarters (sometime halves), exactly like Dominoes oven baked sandwiches. Simply tomato sauce, sausage, onion, and cheese. Anything different would be...

Difference between Calzone and Stromboli ?

Yeah, I’m in the same boat as cbaxter. My shop offers strombolis, and I’ve been asked a number of times about calzones, but I don’t know the difference either. And besides, this forum is designed to help answer the many varying questions of shop owners so we don’t have to waster our time...

    Restaurant Supply (?)

Hey all, I currently run a hole-in-the-wall delivery/take-out shop, my family bought just over a year ago. We’ve seen plenty of growth in the first year, and we really want to move out into a space where we can be primarily dine-in, and still offer carry-out/delivery. My question is, what’s...

    What Makes a Great Employee?

I think the intention was at some point, many employees of pizza shops realize that they want a career in something other than pizza making and leave in a timely manner without causing problems first. Kind of like Brett Favre should’ve retired when he said he was retiring, instead of causing all...

    Car Toppers

I’ve got a couple car toppers that we inherited when we bought the business, but the former owners didn’t use them. I found them, fixed them, and tried to implement them. But, all my drivers are high school kids that don’t want to look dorky or scratch the paint on their sweet rides. I know...

    Central Illinois Produce

A representative from Central Illinois Produce stopped in my shop today and of course salesmen throw around all these numbers and promises, and everything smells like roses if you ask them. Just looking at the numbers on the product list he gave me, it looks like I could save a few bucks. But...

    Loyalty program

They have to spend at least $10 for a punch, and get 9 punches. That’s at least $90, and likely to be well over $100. A small pizza only costs me a few bucks, and it’s something everyone would want. We bought our business just under a year ago and it was in shambles. Thankfully, we’re about out...

    What Makes a Great Employee?

In the years that I’ve worked in two different pizza shops, I’ve seen every kind of employee. The best kind are the ones that are smart and honest, but still know their place. I’ve seen people that can make and cook and deliver and do all the work, but they sucked to work with and employ. I’ve...

    Loyalty program

I like that poker chip idea, that’s pretty clever. We’ve got regular ol’ punch cards, but they seem to work fairly well. I run a Pizza King (Indiana-only chain) and at the bottom of the “Loyal Subject Reward Card,” the letters of Pizza King are all caps and spaced enough to punch them out. When...

    Advertising

We have 6 other pizza joints in town, including the Hut. Ours and two others are Indiana only chains, and the remaining 3 are indies. So, plenty of choices for our town, but it works because we’re the home of Indiana Beach so we’re twice as busy in the summer. Thanks for the glue tip. Taping is...

    Superbust?

Our special was 2 mediums with 2 toppings each for 20 bucks. Most orders were about 3 dollars off full price but we had so many orders and so many large orders, that it was well worth it.

    Advertising

Our town only has about 5 or 6 thousand people, and the paper’s circulation is probably about 4 thousand. It doesn’t strech too far out of town, so pretty much my target market is everyone that lives here, and the paper covers most of that. Heckuva lot better than our radio station…I don’t know...

    Advertising

I run a very small, mainly carry-out/delivery PJ and I’ve just recently committed to advertising every month. These last two months have proven to me the value of advertising extrememly well. Especially Super Bowl Sunday. We bought the business in April of last year, so we’ve had to do quite a...

    Superbust?

Our SB was great! I advertised a special deal for about two weeks prior to SBS and had a big ad in the paper Saturday and Sunday and it paid off big. We doubled our average Sunday, in addition to a weekend that was unusually busy for this time of year.
