I really think the most important thing in retaining employees is the work environment. My basic philosophy is: No amount of money will make you happy in a job you hate. Conversely, if you love your job, the money is secondary.
evidently that’s not true: We have NO internet presence, in fact we ignore it’s existence totally. And I just did a search from my iPhone, and we were the second listing.
I did the poll, but you do realize the meaninglessness of it, don’t you? To be meaningful at all, you would have to combine that number with how much profit you make.
Discrimination based on your actions isn’t what most people would call discrimination… If you choose to have ink or piercings, you are obviously the kind of person who gets ink or piercings! Exactly what that says about you is debatable, of course.
OSV ! I suggest you start your own thread, perhaps titled “Missed opportunities” or some such. Then you won’t get flamed for posting “teaching moments” on a vent thread. 🙂
Not to defend cell phones, but, to my way of thinking there is only one question: Are you doing your job well, or not? If the answer is “not”, I don’t care why, (cell phone, smoking, lazy, whatever), I will find someone who will do the job well.
A good employee who shows up with a piercing? No problem. One that shows up looking like a tacklebox? No such thing: that’s not something a
“good” employee would do. A job applicant who thinks applying with a face-full of piercings is appropriate? One for the circular file.
Let’s face it: there are two kinds of restaurants: Quick food and Slower food. If you stop badmouthing us slower food people for not having quick food, we won’t badmouth Quick food people for serving low quality food.
We had people who wanted seating for 20-40 in the middle of the rush, since we don’t reserve, they wanted to show up about 3;00 and save tables for their group - which would be there around 6;00 or so… We had to make a (rigid!) policy that one person could “occupy” a max of four seats. If you...
I’ve had a similar case of contact dermatitis for 30 years, but in my case I am allergic to citric. (Pineapple, Tomatoes, tomato sauce, Mt. Dew, etc, etc.) Only on one hand, tho. So, yeah, I’ve had to wear a rubber glove for years whenever I’m at work. (Not the vinyl kind). I’ve recently...
Regardless of what your competition is currently getting away with, If a driver is delivering ONLY for you, he is NOT an independent contractor. But you can get away with it until you get audited, then…
Three things to try: Make sure the end of the thermopile is in the middle of your pilot flame, and check that the other end of the thermopile is screwed in tight. (loosen and retighten, do not overtighten!) And lastly, take the your pilot gas line off from the needle valve, just before the...
The only problem with chasing the cheap, is that cheese isn’t cheese and mushrooms aren’t mushrooms. (Wow, that sounds totally incoherent) What I mean is the identical cheese, by another maker, can be unacceptable in quality when compared to the slightly higher priced stuff you are used to. If...
In the customers defense, How much do you tip on a free meal? Yeah, we know to tip as if you paid for it, but for a customer who has never been in that situation before, it’s an understandable mistake…
I’ve opened three stores. All with type 2. Without any cold air return, I may add. All were inspected up one side and down the other. Cold air return would be silly in this local, as the more captured heat the better. I will admit this was over 10 years ago, so things may have changed. My advise...
