Should I be a public restroom?

We have the same issue and the comments on this have started me thinking too. We put a sign up a month ago or so and it has helped some, but not completely. Our shop is next door to a tax preparer and beauty shop - there’s a chinese place at the end of the complex but the rest is retail. Our...

    new hires

The work doesn’t live up to the interview, huh? We’ve seen that a lot - everyone comes in on a 2 week probation and “we’ll take it from there”. Many don’t last that long.

    Weird Batch of Dough

Yes, I agree. I should have been more precise in the recipe. The flour comes in a 25# bag so that’s easy. The water is measured on a scale (with allowance for the bucket weight). Each of the other items has a color coded measuring cup/spoon.

    Weird Batch of Dough

We struggle with training on dough and ran across a batch last night that I can’t figure out what they did. We use 16# water, 25# flour, 2 c sugar, 1/2 c salt 2 T yeast and 1/2 c oil. We usually leave at room temp. for 15 mins then move to walk-in for 3 days before using. It’s usually a joy to...

    Heated Bags

🙂 I don’t need any more help to fold boxes/answer phones & wash dishes. We’re doing fine on drivers and it would be a waste of payroll to hire another one to sit. The problem’s not with the availabilitiy of drivers - it’s with the large delivery area. Yes, we do have some runs that the driver is...

    Delivery times?????

We had a lot of problem with that - gee, weren’t they hungry 15 minutes AGO? We have a $10 minimum and stop taking delivery orders 15 minutes before closing time. We’ll deliver so long as the order can be made and the driver leave by the stated time we close. We really hate to say no to the...

Thanks! We’ve been looking for some new ones!

    Heated Bags

Lots of great helpful information - thanks! I think our area is similar to j_r0kk in that the long runs happen more often. We’re on the edge of town and the “country folk” love delivery - even if they’re 12 miles away from our store they happily pay a $3 delivery charge to get our food. It’s...

    Heated Bags

So, would the heated inserts in the nylon bag be as effective as the more expesive heated bags (that plug into cigarette lighter)? Part is cost and the other part is 40% of our drivers have broken cigarette lighters.

    Heated Bags

So I could assume that it would cool down much faster in the vinyl bag during a delivery in 30-40 degrees? The value of the heated bag could be noticable in about 20 minute then probably. What’s the difference in the vinyl versus nylon? Better/worse/same?

    Heated Bags

We have a large delivery area - some runs 10-12 miles and it’s tough to keep the pizza hot. Has anyone tried the Oven Hot heating element from Ultimate Pizza & Hot food. They go inside the delivery bag and are a lot less expensive than the plug in type bag (about $85 versus about $400). Just...

Anyone else worried about going out of business soon?

We struggle constantly with sales. We have taken over a shop with a really bad name and are in the planning process to change it. We have had 1 week in the past six months when we topped 5K (our operating goal) after a postcard mailing and are settling back to $4400-$4700. We really try to stay...

    payroll checks

I use my bank’s site (Bank of America). I just put in the hours and it calculates everything. It even sends emails to me on taxes due and fills out all the paperwork for me. I did a year-end with our accountant and his review showed it didnt’ miss a thing. I pay $15/month for it so it’s...

Name Change - Better or Worse?

Thanks so much for all the comments & advice - we’ll take the next step and do a name change!

Name Change - Better or Worse?

I have seen that list of recommendations before I’m sure - we followed it. Everything you recommended has been done in the past 6 months. The uniforms are sharper now and not “unisex”. The grand opening was a great success - all things worked well but we still have that old reputation that pops...

Name Change - Better or Worse?

We did that - last October. Even put New Ownership on every piece of marketing there is and still can’t get from under the shadow. You wouldn’t believe some of the things this yahoo did - bad service, slow deliver, really poor product quality, overcharging, employee underpaying, tax evasion -...

Name Change - Better or Worse?

We leased a place 6 months ago. Name has been around locally for about 20 years and the last owner really ran it down. We didn’t realize quite how bad until after we got into it. We’ve had a lot of struggles in the past 6 months and without this forum, I think we may have thrown the towel in...

    Lunch Marketing

We have really struggled with this and had the first few months with many days at $40 for lunch. We get aggressive - constant flyering, taking pizzas into businesses to sell directly at a lower cost ($5 medium 1 topping, $6 large), and have started “lunch basket” where we make up deli...

    Market Share?

This was a great read for me! We go back and forth on whether or not we can survive this business in the long haul but after reading this and running our numbers, we discovered we’re only at 5.9% market share. Even our “boy it would be unbelievable to do $$” number would only be 10.7%. It makes...

    Moving Targets?

Our local Chamber of Commerce gets the new water accounts and I can either get it for free or $30 (depending on mood of the water dept charging the chamber). You can print your own cards and do the whole thing yourself.
