Delivery pizza chains seek escape from federal menu labeling rules

Last week a group of Capitol Hill lawmakers introduced the “Common Sense Nutrition Labeling Bill” that significantly alters federal restaurant nutritional menu labeling rules mandated by the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act of 2010 that are set to take effect next year.

The introduction of the bill follows the launch of a new coalition of senior executives from major delivery and quick-serve pizza chains known as “The American Pizza Community” (TAPC). Last month members of the coalition blanketed Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C., for meetings with members of Congress in order to plead for watered-down menu labeling rules.
