This may be a dumb questiong but, after letting dough balls get to room temp from pulling out of the cooler, can you put them back into the cooler if they are not needed or, do the dough balls need tossed out??
You can put them back. The yeast action will have accelerated due to warming up so the remaining useful life will be shortened. It is best to put them back as soon as possible when you realize that you may not need them.
