Wood Pizza Peels

We have heard from a friend in Europe that the days of wooden pizza peels may be numbered. We’ve been told that there are fines for using them over there on that side of the pond, and even South American health officials are looking at discouraging their use.
Has anybody heard any talk about this, officially or unofficially?

I’ve not heard and chatter about this on this side of the “Big Pond”, but a number of years ago the use of wood bagel boards was frowned upon here, and they were replaced by fiberglass boards (if you think wood is an issue, you gotta think about fiberglass when it’s a few years old), and now composite boards are in common use. If you’re in a position where you can’t use wood peels, I would go with the composite peels. We use them regularly along with the wood ones and they work well.
