Anyone know much about web statistics in Godaddy hosting?

I was trying to find the number of hits to my website but I’m finding “requests” and “page requests”. These numbers are higher than I would expect for hits. Anyone have any insight?

They should be able to break it down by country and spiders.

No idea abut Go Daddy but you should be able to put Google Analytic on your site…

Google analytics is built into go daddy hosting. You can get the stats by looking at : http://[yoursitehere]/stats

If nothing comes up there then you need to go to godaddy and enable stats. Log in, go to hosting (not domains) > My hosting account > Manage Account > Statistics

From there you can enable your stats. I would suggest the default settings if you are new.

If you already have that done, and from the stats titled requests, that is the same as page views. They are listing the number of times that your page is requested from the server. If they seem funny (how many did you get?) then look at the referring URLs and you will quickly get an idea of why. I had a site I worked on blast off in hits, and when i checked, we were listed on a blog somewhere that I had never heard of as a place with unique pizzas. Go figure. It generated nothing for me, but I did send the blogger an email thanking him for the free PR.

In the worst case someone could have complained about your place and listed the link to your site so people could check it out and avoid it. It happens more than you would imagine. Following those referring links back to the source is a great way to nip that in the bud.

This brings me to the pages I was looking at last night. The number of requests for the week begining 11/8 (4.5 days) is 22117 and the number of page requests is 1226. This is a new site, the first time our company has done a website. No online yet ordering to keep people returning over and over. The only place I’ve advertised it is on boxtoppers and magnets over the last 40 days. These numbers just seem too high.

Maybe I’m missing something completely, but wouldn’t you just look at visitors and unique visitors?? I have godaddy and thats what I use to determine how many people come to my site.

If you have Google Analytics active in GoDaddy you should be able to see direct entries where the visitor has keyed in your domain name…You will also be able to see “keyword” searches that brought them there…You will also be able to see country they came from…And a lot more data…

You will also find all sorts of directory sites will soon be linking to your site…

I use paid GoDaddy stats and Google Analytics.

GoDaddy will tell you about visitors to the site and lots more details. The “Visits” number is the total people that came to your site. A “Hit” is any request to your server. There is one hit for the html page, one hit for each of the pictures on the page, and one for several other types of requests. This information is of no value to you at all. You need to know the number of visitors and how they get to your site.

Google Analytics is very good and it’s totally free. The only requirement is that you need to have access to editing the html files on your server to insert the tracking code.

One thing I am sure about is that everyone who checks their stats has a good chance of giving different (yet equally good) advice. Trying to do everything will just get confusing. 1226 page requests really isn’t that out of the ball park for a new site, considering that it was probably tested on a few browsers a few times. Add that into search engine submissions and your own views and you are getting up there.

Go to the referring URL section and post some data here for us.

Re: Anyone know much about web statistics in Godaddy hosting

Even without looking at your site and digging through the code, I can say that you should just ignore that data. The only line that really tells you something is like 15, and the google data below that. All of the rest is essentially internal data.

Imagine if your web site was a house. What matters is the people who find the house. Not how many rooms they visit while there. One person might go to the kitchen, living room, and bathroom again and again.

Whatever happens, and how ever many pages they view (menu, main, specials…) that data will be relatively stable % wise of you have 5 people visit your site or 5000. The things you want to concentrate are your SEO, the easiest thing to do there is to just go through the google webmaster tutorials, and your ranking on search engines. You need people to be able to find you.

Just to summarize, you are only really looking at 1,238 hits from customers who were searching for you. Try and increase that number and ignore the rest.
