Neither one is a good return but the direct mail is slightly better.

To really figure out the benefit of either of these approaches, I think you to try to figure out how many 1st time customers you got and assign a value for the new relationship. I have never seen the return from just the orders generated by the offer(s) really be great.

Completely agree. There will be subtle increases in business that you have to tune yourself to.
