Gum & Candy

Do you let your FOH and/or cooks chew gum or candy? Personally, I think its rude and unprofessional for FOH to be smacking on gum or candy while talking to a customer(face to face or on the phone). I don’t think the cooks should either since it could fall out of their mouth or anything else while they are cooking.

Am I way off with my thinking?? What are your thoughts?

I never had a problem with that…I guess my crew understands it is unprofessional. But yes I wouldn’t allow it if it became a problem. nobody wants to look at a horse chomping on oats while they place an order.

Here in Indiana, chewing gum is basically treated the same as smoking: https://www.in.gov/isdh/21119.htm (item #8)

It’s not something that can be done while preparing food. I can’t imagine it’s different anywhere else in the country.
