Either a personal pizza (6") or appetizers, wings are obviously good (LaNova’s ovenable are really good), see if you can get Austin Blue Rib Tips (Hormel product), and throw some Sweet Baby Ray’s sauce on them. It’s pretty easy to concoct a spinach and artichoke pie, as a 10" appetizer. Do you have a big beer selection? Business crowd will like a variety of micro brews. Look for interesting names as well as tastes, the name will sell for a short while even if the beer or wine is less than good.

that’s a really great idea!!! the beer selection is poor, and I am going to do the Micro brew thing you mentioned

If you can bring in more exotic brews, too, like from Maryland or Ohio, that aren’t readily available, that may help interest. At least, short-term, based on quality.

Have a tasting event. Make some unique high end topped pizzas and match them with select wines or beers. Have some live music if the space allows. Invite your big wine customers. Have the local brew guys showcase their offerings for beer and wine. Turn it into a big advertising event and then invite them back for happy hour specials on a regular basis.

perfect!!! i think the best way will be to bring in the micro brews and then have a tasting event to promote their arrival …right?

Get the micros on board and do joint advertising. Make it a once a month thing or evening and offer their products for sale to go also. I know some states you need a difference license for this…so just check with the locals. Also gives you the chance to try new pizza ideas and get a better group to comment on them. Ask them to do an online survey of everything. The food, drink, staff, even the entertainment. Use this in as many ways as possible. If it takes off…have a friendly raffle. The winner of tonights tasting gets next months free! A little good will and a freebie in one. Some will come back just for the chance too win.

Business crowd after work? Pretty laid back/informal, right?

Have customers drop their business card into a bucket or something like a bingo-ball tumbler. Make an announcement, stir them up and then draw out one of the cards and give away some prize (like a menu side/desert you are trying to push or swag with your logo on it) to the lucky winner. Do this several times during your happy hour. Call this promotion “Networking for your appetite.”

Afterwards, gather up the business cards and build yourself a happy-hour mailing database.
