Health Insurance Coverage

I’m interested, how did people handle their own health insurance needs when they first started up a store? I don’t plan on providing health insurance to any employees as my business partner and I will be GMing the store ourselves; however, I’m coming from a government job where I’ve never had to worry about expensive health care coverage, to a job where I must provide it for myself. I never really get sick or injured, but I figure it’s something that’s necessary to have.

Any suggestions on how to approach acquiring health insurance? Do people find that it is a pretty large personal expense that they weren’t necessarily prepared for?
