Martin Luther King Jr. Day - What to expect?

Hey guys,

This will be our fist MLK Jr. day. We’ve been open 9 months. It sure would be nice to close tomorrow and spend some time with family! If MLK Jr. day typically slow or busy for you? Very tempted to close, especially since it’s a Monday.

It’s a chance to gain customers from your competitors who decide to close.

Any Monday holiday is big for us. We will do a good 50% above our normal Monday.

I am on the other side of the fence. I close for all holidays. I know the staff and their families appreciate being able to spend the holiday together. I also am required to pay the staff regular pay plus time and a half so a $10 per hour person costs me $25 per hour on holidays.

Depends on how many businesses close around me. We run a lunch buffet, so usually 1/3 of my sales on a Monday are from that. We had a slightly slower then normal day. Which was awesome considering how few businesses were open around here today.
