Pinpads: Stolen or 'unauth' charges, are we protected or not?

Right now we are still swiping cards (and matching ID's but that's another topic:p) I keep putting off adding pinpads since I can't get anyone, Speedline or my processor, to clearly confirm that I am protected from chargebacks from a stolen or 'borrowed' card if it is chipped or tapped? I know I'm screwed if it is swiped, but I haven't had a chargeback in 21 years since we handle and verify the card/transaction ourselves. They all like to say 'don't worry, your covered if you chip or tap' but I don't trust them😁

You're covered by swipe too. Only manual entry, be it online ordering or in store/over the phone

Definitely not covered on swipe, not anymore. Processors sent out notices within the last couple of years that any swiped transactions that were contested would automatically be awarded to the cardholder and no protections for the merchants if they weren't chipping or 'tapping'. Most recently I did receive my first chargeback ever; regular customer had fraud on her card and the bank (Chase) accidentally included our transaction in with the fraud group. I contacted her immediately to find out what happened and she said it was in error and had already told her bank to reverse the chargeback and they confirmed they did. She and I kept in touch for the next 2 months while both my processor and her bank claimed I was screwed as it was swiped but she pushed on her end and me on mine 'till Chase finally released the $ to my processor...after they had pulled it from her account almost 2 mos. earlier!
