Sweet Peppers

Hi, I grew up on the east coast and now I live in New Orleans, LA and have recently opened a pizza/sub shop. I am trying to located the sweet pepper strips that we use as a sub topping back east. My sysco rep down here is kinda stupid and tells me that sysco doesnt carry such a thing. I know that we used to order jars of them from sysco at a pizza place I used to work at in Delaware. If anyone knows what I am talking about, and orders them from sysco could you please let me know what brand/sku# they are so I can get them down south.

Not all Sysco houses carry the same items, so being available in Delaware won’t necessarily mean they’ll be available in New Orleans.

I’m from Chicago too, so my first thought is exactly what Integraologist said… “Sweet Peppers” to me are green peppers. But you said “strips”, so are you talking about pre-seasoned green pepper strips that are ready-to-use?

If you can’t find them they’re extremely easy to make. Cut your green pepper strips and lay in a roasting pan, sprinkle with kosher salt, pepper, garlic powder and olive oil and roast 'em for about an hour (until they’re good and soft).

I use a brand called San Del Sweet Peppers, and they are awesome. Yes they are just red and green bell peppers, but they are marinated in a sugar syrup. I only buy dairy mix from Sysco here, but I will see if I can get a product number for the strips next week. Take care!

They aren’t roasted peppers. They are pickled green peppers. If you asked for sweet peppers on a sub or a cheesesteak it is what you would get. Anyone form PA DE MD or NJ?

Bell pepper or sweet pepper is a cultivar group of the species Capsicum annuum (chili pepper). Cultivars of the plant produce fruits in different colors, including red, yellow and orange. The fruit is also frequently consumed in its unripe form, when the fruit is still green. Bell peppers are sometimes grouped with less pungent pepper varieties as “sweet peppers”. Peppers are native to Mexico, Central America and northern South America. Pepper seeds were later carried to Spain in 1493 and from there spread to other European, African and Asian countries. Today, Mexico remains one of the major pepper producers in the world.
