If you have a policy and don’t enforce it (no weapons on premises), you open yourself up to liability. Imagine how your insurance company would react if you allowed weapons on the premises. If there’s no policy, then you’ve got more leeway. I remember a 7-11 type store that made the news because the clerk chased after a customer. I believe the clerk got the snot beaten out of him (by the folks he chased) and fired. It’s insult to injury but you have to follow your policy and their policy was that they don’t confront anyone for stealing.
