music recommendation

I am new to this site and dont actually have a location yet, but have been doing a lot of research. Sirius Satlite Radio seems to have a prety good solution. It is currently about $28 a month and removes the need for licensing. Here is a link.

I have not actually used the business service but have a personal subscription that I listen to all the time.

That sounds like a great deal!

Bummer for me, though… I just checked out the link, and it’s not available in Hawaii… 😦

At our other store that has seating, we use Musak. We have the disc service rather than satellite. There are so many discs to choose from that we really have had no problem finding stuff that is acceptable to me for the customer and which the crew likes. We have blues, jazz, bluegrass, 50s, 60s, 70s discs. A new set of discs comes every month.
How much does the musak system cost? Equipment needs? Where can it be purchased?

Thanks for your help.

We get our Muzak via satellite dish and if memory serves, it runs around $50 a month. You essentially rent the equipment from them, and thats all wrapped up in that cost.

In my opinion, if you can get the sirius business package where you are, seriously consider going with that. The biggest complaint myself and my employees have with Muzak is that it essentially plays the same stuff over and over again, and we have become quite tired of it (if i hear the beach boys one more time i’m throwing the thing off the roof!) Picking a different station helps some, but that only lasts so long.

Also, if you do get the satellite service, during times of heavy rain, it will drop out. I dont remember my sirius ever dropping out in my car with heavy rain.

And a final thought, if you do choose to get muzak and have them tie it into your phone system for music on hold, dont let them put the little amplifier box in the line between the muzak receiver and your phone system. it makes the music way too loud and it distorts it horribly. Even though you can most likely turn the volume down within your phone system, it will still be horribly distorted.
