First MailShark Attempt

Completed my first attempt with MailShark today. Approved the proofs and hoping they’ll be sent out to 500 addresses in the next few weeks. Pretty happy with the design and proofs. This is my first marketing campaign since we opened in Nov 2014. Up until now, I simply let word-of-mouth, Yelp, and exposure from online ordering sites like Eat 24 and Grubhub help us get our word out.

Summer months in SF are slower and even more so in our neighborhood of mostly 30-somethings with young kids in school. Once the schools let out, the families are gone on vacation for much of the summer. Now was the time for a boost and I’m hoping these do it as we’re seeking the non-Eat 24/Grubhub crowd with these mailers.

Let me know what you guys think and if you have any feedback or thoughts on possible improvements. Thanks!

Typo, your Large and XL both are listed at 14" sorry to be the bearer of bad news.

We’ve been using mail shark for years and love them.

Good catch, thanks. Hope it’s not too late to make that change. Oddly enough that wasn’t on the previous proof which only needed one change, wonder how that happened all the sudden. So far I’ve really liked their professionalism and ease of contact. I was able to pick out the USPS routes as well, which is great. I have an area in my delivery map that has high income properties but we haven’t gotten a ton of traffic from that area so this could be huge for us. We just keep growing and hope to continue that!

If you’ve approved it already, it’s gonna be too late to fix it. We’ve caught some stuff after we’ve approved within like a half hour of approving and we’ve been okay, anything after that, is going to be really hard. They’re great, our designer is Janelle, and she has been very good for us over the years. Quick turn around time.

Side note, did you know you can order extras to have in store? The extras also have prepaid postage so if you keep track of real estate sales in your area, you can handwrite address and send those out to the new home owners. We’ve done this once, USPS didn’t like us sending a ton at once so if you can send a few here and there, that’s how I’d do it.

The good thing about mail shark is it only runs for 10 weeks, we always opt to keep running menus because it’s our biggest return, so if there was a mistake we can correct it for the next mailings

Yeah our gal asked if I wanted extra menus for the store and said it’d only be .16 per menu so I of course jumped on that. Still wish I saw that damn typo. Usually really good at proofing and went back n forth with them a few times but deadline was today at noon so I rushed the final proof and didn’t think twice. Shit happens I guess and it could’ve been worse. Stoked to see the return on these woo!

Don’t beat yourself up over it too much, at least it wasn’t a pricing issue that you’d have to honor.

Mailshark really tried to push you at the last second, we have no problem holding off another week now. We’d rather be safe with it, we’re always busy so approving the proof really needs to fit the schedule haha

sweet menu…lean & mean…wish mine was that simple…good luck!

Looks good! I’ve been contemplating mail shark, so I’d love to hear about your results! Keep us posted!

Our account specialist was able to update it before printing, thank you Jeebus!

On top of the throw in carryout menus for .16 each, we also were given 5,000 free box toppers which I’m stoked about as well!

I’m glad they were able to fix that for you!

I do not honor typos. Our menu states that operating hours and prices are subject to change in any case… but the couple of times that it has happened in 17 years we just explain that it is a typo and show other places on the menu that help show it and move on.

Same here… Typos happen but I’d never just accept it. Maybe if it was a quarter but no way if it was much more.

Best of luck with it. It has worked for me for years!
